The Nursing department is comprised of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants. A nurse supervisor is available on all shifts. Nursing services provided at St. Luke’s Villa include, but are not limited to, intravenous therapy, tube feedings, wound care, colostomy care, pain management, medication management, dementia care, surgical site care, injections and oxygen/respiratory treatments. Physicians visit residents but any changes of condition or requests for orders are immediately communicated to the resident’s physician. Whether your loved one is with us for short term rehabilitation or long term care, nursing’s goal is that every resident receives professional and courteous service and is treated with dignity and respect.

Therapy services are provided on site. Our residents benefit from physical, occupational and speech therapy services helping the resident become independent whether short term or long term stay. Our evidence based programs and multi-disciplinary approach allows us to create and implement a plan of care specific to each resident’s needs. Our goal is to provide an exceptional patient care experience that promotes healing and recovery in a caring and compassionate environment.

Social Services –
The Social Services department is the bridge between the facility, the family and the resident. We are first and foremost advocates for the residents in our facility, promoting their individuality and safeguarding their rights during their stay.

Placing a loved one in a facility is many times difficult for both the resident and the family. Social Services staff is available for support and reassurance during this stressful time. Staff is available to hear any concerns, answer any questions or provide any assistance necessary. Social Services staff also assists in discharge planning when the resident is ready to leave the facility. We provide referrals to appropriate agencies and community services, order necessary equipment and coordinate all related activities to ensure a safe and pleasant discharge. Social Services goal is to make the placement experience a smooth transition for all involved and to provide any needed support during the resident’s stay.  

St. Luke’s Villa Pastoral Care –1-HJ3V9322

Residents are invited to participate in a variety of activities that support their spiritual life and their daily search for meaning. Catholic, ecumenical and inter-faith programs on the Spirituality of Aging and other topics of interest are scheduled every Monday at 1:30 pm and on different days throughout the month. A priest of the Diocese of Scranton, who serves as resident Chaplain, is available for the spiritual needs of the residents, staff and family members as requested; collaborates with ecumenical and inter-faith religious leaders, who by visiting members of their congregations contribute to the pastoral care that is provided to our residents.

Catholic Mass is celebrated in our chapel every day at 10 am, Rosary is recited at 9:30 am before Mass and Monday afternoon, the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is celebrated every three months and as requested, and the Sacrament of Penance is also available for Catholic residents as requested.

A Presbyterian Service is celebrated on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:30 pm. Various ecumenical and inter-faith services are scheduled, e.g. quarterly Memorial Services for deceased residents and staff, Inter-faith Thanksgiving Service, Prayers for Christian Unity, etc. A Rabbi visits St. Luke’s Villa for the benefit of members of the Jewish community. Religious and community groups visit residents on various occasions.

Pastoral care collaborates with all departments to provide holistic caring, hospitality, compassion and respect for the residents. All members of the staff and volunteers are encouraged to cooperate and to contribute to spiritual and pastoral care for residents at St. Luke’s Villa through their particular service and by practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

The Dietary department at St. Luke’s Villa prides itself on providing quality food while providing a well-balanced nutritious menu. Three nutritious meals are provided every day for our skilled nursing and personal care residents; likewise, for our apartment tenants. Therapeutic and mechanically altered diets are provided to meet our resident’s needs. Between meal snacks are always made available. The Dietary Manager and the Registered Dietician are always available to address any issues or concerns for each resident and family.

Our menus are continuously updated based on resident input and resident requests allowing our residents to have a say in the foods they would like on a daily basis. Along with the normal daily menus there are special functions on a regular basis such as special holiday menus and planned events. A chef/supervisor with extensive foodservice experience is also on staff.

The Dietary department prides itself on customer service. Meals are served in a family/ restaurant style environment with a focus on resident satisfaction.

Our activity program consists of an array of activities ranging from large group socials (bingo, pokeno, trivia, holiday events and special entertainment, etc) to small group socials such as reminiscence groups, cooking classes and sensory activities for the cognitively impaired resident. We offer a variety of entertainment from folk singers, polka bands, pet therapy and classical pianists. For our skilled nursing residents, an exercise program designed for the elderly meets once a month with a trainer.

The programs are designed to provide opportunities for our residents to interact with staff members and other residents, to participate in workshops and enjoy their daily life. Transportation is provided for shopping and other off campus excursions.

We are continually working to enhance the daily life for our tenants in a caring, active and supportive environment.

STLV-Transportation-Bus_smTransportation –

Our transportation department was created to provide a service that can be tailored to the needs of our residents when possible. St. Luke’s Villa drivers provide a safe and secure transport experience that respects the individual needs of our residents.

St. Luke’s Villa’s 10 passenger bus is fully accessible and can carry one to two wheelchairs at a time. All residents and family members are encouraged to communicate special requirements in advance so arrangements can be made.

We provide safe transportation to and from outings arranged by our activities department to such venues as Farmers Market, fall foliage rides, movie theaters, local performances and many more.

Skilled Nursing resident’s medical appointment transportation is provided by our facility and arranged by our transportation department at no cost to the resident or family. Alternate transportation needs are also arranged if and when needed, such as emergency ambulance service, etc.

Personal Care Home transportation needs are arranged with the same goal in mind, satisfaction of our residents. Many appointments and transportation needs of our Personal Care residents do require advance scheduling.

Apartment/Independent Resident transportation is available Monday through Friday for medical appointments with advanced notice and grocery shopping, at no expense to the tenants.

Barber and Beauty Services
For our residents’ convenience, barbers and beauticians offer on site services on a regular schedule for a fee.

Optometry Care
For those residents unable to visit outpatient optometry centers, we provide on-site optometrist visits.

Other Services
In addition to those services provided directly through St. Luke’s Villa, other additional services are provided through independent professionals including podiatry, laboratory services, and diagnostic radiology and ultrasound.

Plan of Care
We take pleasure and satisfaction developing a plan of care that meets each resident’s needs and goals. Essential information is gathered upon, or shortly after admission, and professionally trained staff, physicians and family members develop an individualized plan of care. Residents and family members are encouraged to participate in this process. Care plans are updated on a regular basis and meetings are held to review current interventions with residents and family members.

Personal Items
We encourage residents to bring personal belongings that may help create a comfortable and home like environment. For resident and staff safety, items must be approved and inventoried on a regular basis. Social Service and Plant Operations are available for any assistance that might be needed.

Long term care safety regulations prohibit residents from having items like electric blankets, heating pads, space heaters, fans and humidifiers.

Visiting and Outings
Family and friends are encouraged to visit as frequently as possible. Scheduled visiting hours are posted. If arrangements are needed for special gatherings or celebrations, advance notice is appreciated so that we can make your get together special.

If you bring food items in, please notify the Nursing staff to determine if it is appropriate for the resident. All food carried in must be properly identified and labeled to ensure resident safety.

We strongly encourage family and friends not to visit during time of illness. This decreases any risk of exposure to residents and staff.

When planning a leave for residents, please notify the Social Services and Nursing departments so that all appropriate arrangements can be made.
